STRATEGY

The Strategy proposes the deployment of LNG supply developments in Spanish ports and the boost of the associated market. It is led and promoted by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda through Puertos del Estado.  It is established as a follow-up to the CORE LNGas hive project as the institutional umbrella for the different LNGhive2 projects that are presented with the support of the Spanish administration to the possibility of being co-financed by the European Commission to promote a more sustainable transport, through the TEN-T Transport Network, the Innovation Agency, INEA and the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

It belongs to the National Action Framework for Alternative Energies in Transport activities approved by the Council of Ministers in December 2016 and is geared towards compliance with European Commission Directive 94/2014, which represents a clear commitment to alternative fuels in the transport sector.

As such, LNG is a more sustainable fuel compared to traditional fuels, reduces CO2 by around 20%, eliminates (100%) emissions of sulphur oxides (SOx), particulate matter (PM) and substantially reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) (85%-95%). As a result, air quality in port environments is improved.
