• The ‘Haugesund Knutsen’, chartered by Shell Spain and built by Astilleros Armón Gijón, will operate in the Port of Barcelona and boost the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a sustainable fuel in maritime transport

• The shipbuilding initiative, spearheaded by Knutsen Oas Shipping, is part of a European project coordinated by Enagás within the LNGhive2 institutional strategy led by Puertos del Estado, and has been co-financed by the European Commission through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme

• The event also saw presentation of the adaptation of the Small-Scale jetty at the Enagás regasification terminal in Barcelona, which is one of the actions included in the Government’s +ES Plan (Plan Más Seguridad Energética – More Energy Security Plan)

• Prior to presentation of the ship, Arturo Gonzalo, CEO of Enagás, and Lluís Salvadó, President of the Port of Barcelona, signed a MoU for the joint promotion of hydrogen projects in the area

El proyecto está promovido por Knutsen OAS Shipping AS y Enagás, a través de su filial Scale Gas, que construirán el barco de abastecimiento de GNL.

Esta iniciativa impulsa la sostenibilidad medioambiental en el transporte marítimo y se enmarca dentro de la estrategia ‘LNGhive2’, cofinanciada por la UE, coordinada por Enagás y liderada por Puertos del Estado.

El barco, que será fletado por Shell España SA, utilizará la terminal de Enagás, con el apoyo del Port de Barcelona, para la carga y suministro del GNL.

Ayer tuvo lugar la ceremonia de puesta de quilla del buque, celebrada en las instalaciones del astillero de Armon en Gijón.

Scale Gas and Peninsula announce an agreement to build and charter a vessel to supply LNG to the Port of Algeciras and its surroundings

  • Enagás, through its subsidiary Scale Gas, and Peninsula, have agreed to build and jointly own a liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply vessel.

  • The agreement includes the chartering of the vessel by Peninsula, which will supply LNG as marine fuel in the Port of Algeciras and around the Strait of Gibraltar.

  • The vessel, with a capacity of 12,500m3, will be built at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and is expected to be delivered in the third quarter of 2023.

  • The project is co-financed by the European Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) transport

Project is driven by Knutsen OAS Shipping AS and Enagás, through a Joint Venture of its subsidiary Scale Gas, that will build the bunking vessel.

The initiative promotes environmental sustainability in maritime transport, is framed within the strategy ‘LNGhive2’, co-financed by the EU, coordinated by Enagás and led by State Ports.

El barco, que será fletado por Shell España SA, utilizará la terminal de Enagás, con el apoyo del Port de Barcelona, para la carga y suministro del GNL.

The ship will be chartered by Shell España SA, will use the Enagás LNG terminal, with the support of the Port of Barcelona, for the loading and supply of LNG..

The European Commission supports the construction of the first LNG bunkering vessel to operate at the Port of Algeciras

The project is promoted by Enagás, through its subsidiary Scale Gas, and the Port Authority of Algeciras Bay

The initiative is part of the LNGhive2 strategy led by the Spanish Ports Authority and co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)

The ship will be loading LNG at the Enagás terminal in Huelva and will operate in the area covered by the Port of Algeciras
